		<content type="html">&lt;P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 10pt"&gt;&lt;B&gt;&lt;SPAN style="COLOR: red; FONT-SIZE: 10pt"&gt;&lt;BR&gt;&lt;U&gt;What is "ice dam" and what causes it?&lt;BR&gt;&lt;/U&gt;&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/B&gt;&lt;SPAN style="COLOR: #4b4b4b; FONT-SIZE: 10pt"&gt;&lt;BR&gt;Ice damming occurs when melting snow runs down the surface of a roof and refreezes. As run-off re-freezes, the ice builds up and begins to dam the subsequent run-off, causing it to pool. Unfortunately, shingles are designed to shed water with the help of gravity and they don’t perform well against the standing water. Some of the pooled water finds its way under shingles to hidden seams and fastener holes. Some of it refreezes under the tabs and lifts the shingles, literally opening a floodgate.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P style="LINE-HEIGHT: normal; MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"&gt;&lt;/P&gt;

Run-off makes its way down the slope of the roof and eventually comes in contact with the deck over the eaves -- which is not exposed to the heat from the attic. It is here the ice begins to form. A heavy freezing rain can also trigger this cycle even when snow is not present.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt;

This will release the melting agent gradually, extending the melting process, allowing the water to drip harmlessly to the ground.&lt;/LI&gt;&lt;/UL&gt;
&lt;P style="LINE-HEIGHT: normal; MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"&gt;&lt;B&gt;&lt;/B&gt;&lt;/P&gt;

&lt;LI&gt;After applying a melting agent, if you must chip the ice, do so very carefully. NEVER strike your roof with an axe, hammer, or anything that will damage the shingles.&lt;/LI&gt;&lt;/UL&gt;

		<title>Distracted Driving</title>

		<content type="html">&lt;p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: normal;"&gt;I am in my car on the way to work, making my way down Rt 6A on Cape Cod.  Looking out the window at the beautiful view is distraction enough; never mind having to worry about the other driver, distracted, on the cell phone or worse, texting.  I am slowing down, looking in my rear view and hoping they pay attention and look up in time to stop before rear ending me.  Or how many times has the vehicle coming in the opposite direction swerved over the line due to the fact they weren’t paying attention. Most of the time, they recover and it is fine… This has happened to all of us and for many different reasons.   &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"&gt; &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: normal;"&gt;According to a 2007 Department of Transportation study, the United States is home to the largest passenger vehicle market of any country in the world.  It is estimated that there are 254.4 million registered passenger vehicles in the United States, and this number has steadily grown since the 1960’s.   Keeping these numbers in mind, along with the ever expanding mobile technology and the growing number of Americans who are using these applications while driving we have a huge problem on our hands.  &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"&gt; &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: normal;"&gt;According to AAA, driver distractions are nothing new. It has been a topic of discussion since windshield wipers were introduced.  Using a cell phone while driving can increase your chances of being in an auto accident.  But research shows other distractions such as eating a sandwich, tending to children, conversing with a passenger or gazing at the passing landscape occur more frequently and can be just as distracting as cell phone use.  Now, just imagine the risks if you combine two or more of the tasks above.  &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"&gt; &lt;strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;span style="color: #002060; font-size: 14px;"&gt;WILL BANNING HAND HELD CELL PHONES IMPROVE SAFETY?&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt; &lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: normal;"&gt;Not according to some current research.  A study funded by AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety found the effects of cell phone use on driver attention is about as distracting as tuning a radio.  However, there have been no studies which show hands-free phones offer any safety advantages over hand held phones.  &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"&gt; &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: normal;"&gt;Massachusetts has proposed legislation which will ban texting while driving for all drivers, including law enforcement.  Compromises between the House and the Senate will determine additional restrictions on calling and heftier sanctions for junior operators.  &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"&gt; &lt;strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;span style="color: #002060; font-size: 14px;"&gt;WHAT ELSE CAN WE DO?&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"&gt; &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: normal;"&gt;Educate:  Cooperation between policy makers, motor vehicle offices, motor clubs and insurance companies is key.  Everyone involved is working to develop educational approaches that will train drivers to recognize when they are being distracted and how it affects their driving.  The key is to learn how to manage those distractions.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"&gt; &lt;strong&gt; &lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"&gt;&lt;FONT face="times new roman" size=3&gt;First, your standard Homeowners insurance policy does not cover damage from floods. But did you know that floods are one of the most common hazards in the &lt;?xml:namespace prefix = st1 /&gt;&lt;st1:place w:st="on"&gt;&lt;st1:country-region w:st="on"&gt;United States&lt;/st1:country-region&gt;&lt;/st1:place&gt;. Also, unlike Homeowners insurance which is designed bring back your home and its contents to the same condition before the loss; flood insurance is designed to get you “back on your feet”. &lt;FONT style="mso-spacerun: yes"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/FONT&gt;&lt;/FONT&gt;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"&gt;&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;FONT face="times new roman" size=3&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/FONT&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"&gt;&lt;FONT face="times new roman" size=3&gt;Most people believe they do not need flood insurance unless they own beach front property. The fact is that only about 3% of all flood losses are associated with beach front homes. Homes which are located in “high hazard” areas should consider purchasing flood insurance since they have a 26% change of having a flood loss over a 30 year mortgage. Often, flood insurance is a condition imposed by lenders (assuming you require a mortgage) for those purchasing a home in a high risk area. Some lenders may require flood insurance in “moderate to low risk” area’s as well.&lt;FONT style="mso-spacerun: yes"&gt;&amp;nbsp; &lt;/FONT&gt;&lt;/FONT&gt;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"&gt;&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;FONT face="times new roman" size=3&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/FONT&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"&gt;&lt;FONT face="times new roman" size=3&gt;About 25% of all flood claims are associated with homes located in a “low risk” area. So you need to consider very carefully your individual situation. Obviously the premium cost associated with flood insurance will vary by area. Information regarding a community’s flood hazard is typically located in the Town Hall.&lt;/FONT&gt;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"&gt;&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;FONT face="times new roman" size=3&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/FONT&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/P&gt;

The premium will depend upon the items scheduled and their current value.&lt;SPAN&gt;&amp;nbsp; &lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt;
